Kochurani, a native of Kaithamukku in Edathua region of Alleppey district in Kerala, lives with her parents, two siblings and her grandparents. Her father is a fisherman and her mother works as a daily wage labourer. But together they hardly make 3000 rupees a month. Her grandmother being a chronic asthma patient, survives on medication. Many helping hands have helped Kochurani to buy books and other school supplies. They live in a small house in the flood prone colony where most families depend on daily wages for their living. Kochurani studies in Class 12 in an aided school two kilometres away from home and walks all the way to school and back everyday.

Kochurani participates in curricular and co-curricular activities with equal gusto. She scored 92 percent in her Class 10 exams. She has excellent oratory skills and has won prizes in elocution competitions, both in English and Malayalam. She is also on the drama team at her school. She loves to face challenges and aspires to become a nurse as she believes that it is a very demanding job that requires a lot of hard work and dedication.
